October 23, 2014 Solar Eclipse Index

The 2014 solar eclipse peaked in Anchorage, Alaska around 1:12 pm on October 23, 2014. Luckily it was a bright sunny day with not a cloud in the sky. In addition, there happened to be a very nice sunspot group right near the edge of the moon. These pictures were all taken right at maximum eclipse plus or minus about 5 minutes.

All pictures were taken at 700mm using a Canon 500mm lens with a 1.4x extender, along with a Thousand Oaks solar filter. I took a lot of different pictures at different exposure times and varied some of the other settings hoping some would come out good.

Each page has two copies of the same picture. The copy at the top is reduced so you can easily see the whole picture. The copy below is full size so you can see the maximum detail. Note of course several sunspot groups, but also notice the edge of the moon is not smooth due to the mountains.
