Sun taken from Anchorage, Alaska
June 15, 2015
June 15, 2015 Sun Index
The pictures on pages 1, 2, and 3 were all taken from 11am to noon on June 15, 2015, with the Canon 7D
Mark II camera attached to the Lunt LS152 telescope. The Hydrogen-Alpha filter on the telescope
is single stacked. The pictures on pages 4 through 6 were taken between noon and
2:15pm on June 16, 2015 with the same telescope setup plus the addition of a
Celestron 2.5X barlow lens. The barlow lens allows more detail to show up at the
expense of only being able to picture about 1/3 of the sun in each shot.
Pages 7 and 8 use the same telescope and camera but the Hydrogen-alpha filter
has been replaced with a Calcium-K filter allowing for a view of a lower level
in the atmosphere of the sun. The 2.5X barlow lens is used on all of the
Calcium-K photos.
These are all just test pictures, unmodified in any way other
than cropping, used to figure out the best exposure times to use. Pictures were taken from the roof of the
Adventure condominium building in South Anchorage.
